The Trip

After leaving our jobs, giving our parents a few more gray hairs, and selling/storing all of our personal belongings, we are hopping into a 2002 Jeep Wrangler with 131,000 miles on it and hitting the road! Taking the southern route, we will be stopping & staying with friends/family along the way, final destination: Northwestern CO where we will stay & work for the winter season... From there, nobody knows!

Spiders and Doggies and Beef- Oh My!

Yesterday was spent driving from Daytona Beach allllll the way up and over, past Tallahassee, to DeFuniak Springs, FL. Sorry to all of our avid readers, but that just didn't seem eventful enough to blog about... We wouldn't want to bore you ;-)

Today, however, was much more interesting! We started off the day with a trip to Advanced Auto Parts to investigate a check engine light that came on in Daytona Beach, but mysteriously turned off all by itself before we left... Being the smart girls that we are, we knew that whatever was wrong didn't magically fix itself, so we decided to look into it further. Thanks to the help of Heather's brother Danny, we were able to get the code before the light went out, so we found out the problem was a cylinder 3 misfire caused by a bad boot & a couple of bad spark plugs... $62 later, we drove off happily into the sunshine!

Next stop was a visit to Uncle Steve's property- a gorgeous piece of land undergoing a makeover and some much-needed TLC after the abuse from its previous residents. While walking around, we discovered holes dug by a rather large armadillo, and a very very large spiderweb with a huge banana spider sitting right in the middle of it! Thank goodness Uncle Steve was walking in front of us & has a good eye, because we would NOT have wanted to walk into THAT giant booby-trap!

Next, we went to the local AmVets (same as a VA or VFW) for some refreshment, and watched in horror as Uncle Steve downed a couple of pickled eggs! Gross!! Even more horrifying, was the look on our faces when the bartender offered us the opportunity to try pickled pig's feet! NO thanks... :-P

Aunt Patty, her sister Jeannie and Jeannie's man Wayne all met up with us to get some dinner at Beef O'Brady's down the road... Interesting name, but they made a great taco salad, fish'n'chips, and bangin mashed potatoes!

So with full tummies and a Jeep that's running like new, we headed back to our motel room (with AC!!), played with Uncle Steve's puppy, Bugsy, for a little while, and headed in to relax before bed.
