The Trip

After leaving our jobs, giving our parents a few more gray hairs, and selling/storing all of our personal belongings, we are hopping into a 2002 Jeep Wrangler with 131,000 miles on it and hitting the road! Taking the southern route, we will be stopping & staying with friends/family along the way, final destination: Northwestern CO where we will stay & work for the winter season... From there, nobody knows!

Adios Florida, Bienvenue New Orleans!

Today we woke up a little later than planned (surprising, we know), and got scolded by hotel management for only telling the maid that we wanted to check out late, rather than calling the front desk... Then we stopped at Walmart to pick up a few supplies and had lunch at Lily's roadside cafe with Uncle Steve. Another brief stop at Jeff's house to borrow his hose so we could finally remove the teal-green spray paint pinstripe from the side of the jeep, and we were on the road again!

I-10 from Florida, thru Alabama & Mississippi, to Louisiana was actually a rather pleasant drive! We didn't hit any traffic and sailed smoothly along, despite a few construction areas we ran across... To keep boredom at bay, we had a little fun pumping our fists as we passed heavy-duty tractor trailer trucks and seeing who would honk- we got 11 out of 14!! I think we also picked up a few curious motorists who seemed to speed up a little after we had passed them, in order to watch as we kept ourselves and them entertained!

At a pit-stop off exit 31 in Mississippi, we took a few minutes to search the internet for a good place to stay the night, and found a nice little hostel in New Orleans called the Bourbon House. We were greeted at the door by an extremely friendly host and after being shown around, we relaxed for a few minutes out on the patio. We met a couple of travelers from Australia who actually just spent most of this summer & past winter up in Aspen, CO and are now traveling before they head to England! They are going on a swamp tour tomorrow and are going to fill us in so we can plan our trip and maybe go see some 'gators ourselves... :-)
