The Trip

After leaving our jobs, giving our parents a few more gray hairs, and selling/storing all of our personal belongings, we are hopping into a 2002 Jeep Wrangler with 131,000 miles on it and hitting the road! Taking the southern route, we will be stopping & staying with friends/family along the way, final destination: Northwestern CO where we will stay & work for the winter season... From there, nobody knows!

Daytona Beach

We arrived in Daytona Beach, FL yesterday around noon and checked into a quiet little koa campground near the beach.

Although it was a stone's throw away from a major road and many shopping areas, it was also home to a wide variety of critters, such as lizards and squirrels, and one of our neighbors even had a cat with them! The lizards were pretty timid, and scooted away at the slightest movement, but the squirrels were determined to keep their claim on the territory... We were constantly being pelted with nuts from the trees above and when we went to the pool for a while, we came back to find that they had chewed through our cooler and stolen a bag of peanut m&m's, which we found torn open & empty on the ground near our campsite!

The pool was really nice and helped cool us down during the afternoon heat (97 degrees!), and we also got a chance to talk to some of our neighbors. There were 2 girls at the pool when we got there, and we quickly discovered they were speaking another language. We found out that they were from Denmark, and were traveling the US just like us! They flew to CA and have been driving east, stopping at all the natural parks along the way. They were really friendly and gave us some great tips for when we get there too!

After the pool, we had a dinner of pb&j and then headed out to experience Daytona's finest nightlife... aka biker bars! We were headed to Dirty Harry's, but when we parked, a cab driver who saw our CT plates stopped us to ask where we were from in CT because he grew up in Torrington! He told us not to waste our time at Dirty Harry's because all their drinks were overpriced and the crowd was mostly older men, and then he pointed us to another saloon called Froggy's! After hearing the name of it, we knew we had to check it out, and true to his word, the drinks were cheap and the crowd was much closer to our ages than we had expected, judging from the variety of Harleys parked out front... So we made some friends, flirted with some bikers, and had a fun and interesting evening!

Now we are headed to De Funiak, FL to visit Steve & Patty (Laura's uncle & aunt), and have approximately 220 miles on Rte. 10 before we get there!
