The drive from Half Moon Bay to San Francisco only took about 3 hours, and we finally got a chance to see the sun set over the coastal cliffs without interference from the fog! We got into the city around 8 but by the time we found the hostel, drove around looking for parking, and finally figured out that the hostel has an arrangement with a nearby parking garage, it was after 9! So we checked into the Amsterdam hostel, met our roommates who were traveling from Taiwan, and then cleaned ourselves up a little and went looking for something to eat. We settled on a Chinese restaurant a block away because nothing else was open within walking distance, and we didn't know anything about the public transportation system.
After dinner, we were exhausted so we went to bed and then got up and checked out of the hostel. We walked to a nearby coffee shop for breakfast, and then picked up the Jeep from the parking garage and headed over to the Golden Gate Bridge. We got some nice pics of the bridge and also a view of Alcatraz Island, which was pretty cool. We also got to watch some pretty big boats pass under the bridge, including a beautiful 3-sail sailboat, which really made me wish I knew anything about sailing!
Then we hit the road again, headed north to our campsite in the Redwoods, in order to arrive before the site closed at 6.
